Salmon patties are crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and can be made with canned or cooked fresh salmon.
Ingredients
- 1 can (14–15 oz / 400–425 g) salmon, drained
- 1 large egg, beaten
- ½ cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers
- ¼ cup finely chopped onion
- 1 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2–3 tbsp oil for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the salmon
- Drain the salmon.
- Remove skin and larger bones if desired (the soft bones are edible and rich in calcium).
- Mix
- In a bowl, combine salmon, egg, breadcrumbs, onion, parsley, lemon juice, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Mix until the mixture holds together.
- Form patties
- Shape into 4–6 patties.
- If the mixture is too wet, add a little more breadcrumbs.
- Cook
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Fry patties for about 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown and heated through.
- Serve
- Serve with lemon wedges, tartar sauce, a green salad, roasted vegetables, or mashed potatoes.
Optional Variations
- Add diced bell peppers or green onions.
- Mix in a little grated cheese.
- Use fresh herbs such as dill or cilantro.
- For a spicy version, add cayenne pepper or chopped chili.
Baking Method
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Place patties on a lightly greased baking sheet.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, flipping once halfway through.
Quick Sauce
Mix:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp chopped dill or parsley
