Crock Pot Baked Ziti
This slow-cooker version of baked ziti is easy, hearty, and perfect for busy days.
Ingredients (6–8 servings)
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 jar (24 oz / 680 g) marinara sauce
- 1 can (15 oz / 425 g) tomato sauce
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 12 oz (340 g) uncooked ziti pasta
- 15 oz (425 g) ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups water or low-sodium broth
Instructions
- Brown the meat
- In a skillet, cook the ground beef or sausage with the onion until browned.
- Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Drain excess fat if needed.
- Make the sauce
- Stir in marinara sauce, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- Layer in the crock pot
- Lightly grease the slow cooker.
- Spread a thin layer of sauce on the bottom.
- Add one-third of the uncooked ziti.
- Spoon over one-third of the ricotta.
- Add some meat sauce and a sprinkle of mozzarella.
- Repeat layers until ingredients are used.
- Add liquid
- Pour water or broth evenly around the edges to help the pasta cook.
- Cook
- Cover and cook on Low for 3–4 hours or until the pasta is tender.
- Avoid overcooking, as pasta can become soft quickly.
- Finish with cheese
- Sprinkle remaining mozzarella and Parmesan over the top during the last 15–20 minutes of cooking.
- Cover until melted.
- Serve
- Let stand for about 10 minutes before serving.

- Bell peppers
- Red pepper flakes for heat
Tips
- Different slow cookers vary, so start checking for doneness around 3 hours.
- For a richer flavor, use a combination of beef and Italian sausage.
