Spinach and Cheese Puff Pastry Squares
These are crispy, golden puff pastry bites filled with creamy cheese and savory spinach—perfect as snacks, appetizers, or party food.
🧾 Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 2 cups spinach, chopped (fresh or frozen, well-drained)
- 1 tbsp butter or olive oil
- 2–3 garlic cloves, minced
- ½ cup cream cheese (or ricotta)
- ½ cup feta or mozzarella (or mix)
- 1 egg (for egg wash + optional filling binder)
- Salt & black pepper to taste
- Optional: pinch of chili flakes or nutmeg
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Prepare the spinach filling
- Heat butter/oil in a pan
- Sauté garlic for 30 seconds
- Add spinach and cook until wilted (or dry if frozen spinach)
- Season with salt, pepper, and optional chili/nutmeg
- Let cool slightly, then mix in cream cheese and feta
2. Prepare pastry
- Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F)
- Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface
- Cut into equal squares (about 9–12 pieces depending on size)
3. Fill and fold
- Spoon spinach-cheese mixture into center of each square
- Fold into triangles or leave open-faced
- Press edges lightly with a fork to seal if folded
4. Egg wash
- Beat 1 egg and brush tops for a golden finish
5. Bake
- Bake for 15–20 minutes until puffed and golden brown
