Here’s a popular copycat version of the famous rolls from Texas Roadhouse that comes very close to the original sweet, fluffy texture. (Allrecipes)
Ingredients (12–16 rolls)
- 1¼ cups whole milk
- 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- ¼ cup honey
- 4 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (approximately)
- Extra melted butter for brushing
Instructions
- Warm the milk to about 105–110°F (40–43°C).
- Stir in the yeast and let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix in the honey, melted butter, egg, and salt.
- Gradually add the flour and knead for 8–10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
- Roll the dough to about ½-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
- Cut into squares or rectangles.
- Place on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise again for 30–45 minutes.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 12–15 minutes, until lightly golden.
- Brush immediately with melted butter and serve warm. (The Cozy Cook)
Cinnamon Honey Butter
Mix together:
- ½ cup softened butter
- ¼ cup honey
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- Pinch of powdered sugar (optional)
Whip until fluffy and serve with warm rolls. The honey-cinnamon butter is a key part of the Texas Roadhouse experience. (Allrecipes)
Tip: For extra-soft rolls, don’t add too much flour—the dough should be slightly tacky. Many copycat recipes also recommend scalding the milk first and letting it cool before adding the yeast for an even fluffier texture. (Allrecipes)
